The word "dichroic" is derived from two Greek roots,"di" for two and "chroma" for color. So "dichroic" literally means "two colors" Dichroic actually transmits one color and reflects another. It is formed in a vaccum chamber by applying ultra-thin layers of different metals. (gold,silver,titanium,chromium,aluminum,zirconium,magnesium,silicon)It was developed by NASA for use in the aerospace industry, and because of it's facinating properties has made its way into jewelry manufacturing. Measurements given for pendants are not including bails. I usually try to match color schemes when deciding whether the pendant should have a silver or gold bail. If you would like me to change a bail to the alternate color, I will do that at no charge. Please allow 48 hours for this service.
